Understanding weather is one of the most important skills a boater can have. This in-person seminar
provides practical, real-world knowledge to help you plan safer trips and make better decisions on the
water.

• Weather fundamentals and how systems form and move
• High- and low-pressure systems, fronts, and air masses
• Reading and understanding marine forecasts and NOAA reports
• Cloud identification and what it means for boaters
• Wind, waves, swell, and sea state
• Thunderstorms, squalls, and hazardous weather recognition
• Tropical weather awareness and seasonal risks
• Using weather apps, radar, VHF radio, and onboard instruments
• Pre-trip planning and Go / No-Go decision making
• What to do when weather changes unexpectedly
This seminar is ideal for new and experienced boaters alike and is taught by certified instructors from
the United States Power Squadrons®, a nonprofit organization dedicated to boating safety and
education.
